How to Use Pocket Incense Sticks and the Ceramic Holder
Opening a pocket incense tin is simple. Using it safely takes one extra step: the small ceramic holder supports a stick, but it is not an ash-catching tray. Place it on a stable, heat-resistant tray large enough to catch falling ash. That tray is not included with the tin.
Each Ziyang Aroma Tale pocket incense tin contains about 50 short sticks, 10 g of incense in total, and one ceramic holder. The sticks are about 10.5 cm long and are listed at approximately 15 minutes of burn time each; actual time varies with conditions. The same setup applies to Gardenia Mist, Osmanthus Moon, and Quiet Woods.
1. Choose a clear, ventilated place
Start with a level surface away from curtains, papers, bedding, and other flammable objects. Keep the setup out of reach of children and pets, and away from drafts that could carry ash beyond the tray. Open a window or otherwise provide fresh air. If smoke or fragrance causes discomfort, put the incense out and ventilate the space.
2. Set the holder on an ash tray
Slide open the tin and remove the white ceramic holder and one stick. Set the holder in the center of your heat-resistant tray, then insert the unlit end of the stick upright. Check that it sits securely and that the tray can catch ash along the full burn. Do not burn a stick inside the metal storage tin.
3. Light the tip, then stay nearby
Light the exposed tip. Let it catch briefly, then gently blow out the flame so the tip glows and releases smoke. Keep the incense within sight for the whole burn. Do not leave it burning while you sleep, leave the room, or step outside.
4. Let everything cool before storing
When you are finished, make sure the ember is fully extinguished. Wait until the holder and ash are cool before handling them. Dispose of cooled ash safely, then return only clean, dry items to the tin. Keep the remaining sticks closed in a cool, dry place.
At a glance: one stick + the included ceramic holder + your own heat-resistant ash tray + ventilation + your attention from lighting to extinguishing.
